Gladwin starter Drew Cassiday (RHP, Midland Dow/13) went all seven innings for the win (7 runs / 7 earned, 13 hits, 2-BB, 8K) stranding runners in scoring position in the second and seventh innings. Ann Arbor starter Joel Gowen (RHP, Dexter/12-Michigan State) left in the second giving up one run, followed by Jesse Brigham (RHP, Concord/13-Albion) who took the loss, giving up 7 runs (1 earned) - Cole Knaup (DH/RHP, Columbia Central/12-Jackson) pitched a perfect 1-2-3 sixth inning for Ann Arbor. Dylan Brown (RF, Farwell/14) had two hits and two RBI for Gladwin - the rest of Gladwin's offense came from eight walks, one hit by pitch and five errors that allowed the batter to reach base. Ann Arbor produced a lot of hits - 13 - Tyler Reed (LF, Columbia Central/13) had a single and a triple; Tom Gulley (3B; Stow, OH-South Carolina Sumter) had a double, single and an RBI; Knaup had a double, two singles and an RBI; Mike Lentine (C, Howell/12-Lansing CC) had a double; Darren Ford (RF, Howell/14) had two hits and three RBI; and Justin Barnes (CF, Saline/12-Jackson) had a double.
Gladwin Post 171 followed up this win with a 8-5 victory over Clare Burt Post 248 (Laingsburg, MI) to claim the championship of the Spartan Classic.
