I drove down for Friday's game(s) - didn't see much of Troy, but they've got some very impressive, well-maintained parks and pleasant people. The tournament is wood bat with 7 inning games. Most, but not all, of the teams are American Legion.
Game 1 was against the Columbus Braves at Duke Park - some early games had been rained out so the start was about 45 minutes later than scheduled. It was hot and humid - but a steady breeze.
MY STATS are not official
*(1) Post 46-5, Columbus Braves-1;
Post 46 (Visitor; 5-8-0; WP-Matte (7ip, 1R/1ER, 3H, 1BB, 7K); 2H (Tidwell; Payzant); 2B (Glanty; Payzant; Reed); 2RBI (Galanty);
Columbus (Home; 1-3-2; LP-Link (5.2ip, 4R/1ER, 7H, 3BB, 2HBP, 5K); 2B (Washington));
Brief summary: Post 46 scored 3 runs in the first off of 3 hits and an error (only 1 run was earned) - Andrew Tidwell started with a single, Ben Stale sacrificed him to 2nd and Cole Knaup reached on an error - Joe Galanty drove in both with a double and Josh Payzant drove in Galanty with another double. A 4th run came on an error in the 6th - Austin Johnson reaching on a walk and scoring on a 2-out bases loaded error.
The 5th run came in the 7th when Austin Johnson singled to drive in Josh Payzant who had been hit by a pitch. Phil Matte gave up 3 hits - and 1 walk - while striking out 7. Drew Link took the loss for the Columbus Braves, giving up 7 hits but only 1 earned run. Ben Washington had the big hit for the Braves - a 2-out double that scored Link in he 3rd inning.
(2) Post 46 vs Kalamazoo Maroons/B (there are 2 Maroons team in the tournament) - the game was suspended by lightning about 5:40 and cancelled about 7pm - I did not stay after the suspension, but
Post Commander Steve Duncan was thoughtful enough to let me know. Under tournament rules both teams are awarded a "win" for rainouts.
